The Kunsthal Rotterdam will reveal the astonishing story of women's shoe design from 1900 to the present during the Spring of 2014. "S.H.O.E.S" - Sexy Heels Or Easy Sandals - will exhibit more than 500 shoes created by celebrated designers such as André Perugia and Salvatore Ferragamo, international "stars" Manolo Blahnik and Christian Louboutin, as well as contemporary and rising young talent. Location: The Kunsthal Rotterdam.
Each visitor will get the chance to meet life-size dinosaurs, the way they lived some 235 million years ago, taking you on the journey of their evolution from small, predatory reptiles, until their development into the gigantic prehistoric monsters which dominated the Earth and the skies. This is an exciting tour of the Mesozoic Era, in other words the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods - The Era of Reptiles. Location: Post Rotterdam (Coolsingel 42).
About ninety sculptures and photographs by three artists will come to Rotterdam from different international collections, since there are only a few works included in Dutch collections. The exhibition explores how Rosso, Brancusi and Man Ray conceived the photographic medium as a tool to achieve their sculptural principles, rather than a merely reportorial activity, and highlights some unexpected similarities in the experimental and pioneristic researches of these three artists. More than 45 students of Codarts will perform this evening. You can enjoy beautiful duets, harmony singing, including impressive dance. Specially formed for this occasion an ensemble of students from various music departments accompanies the upcoming musical stars live. Location: Luxor Theater.

King's Day (Koningsdag), a national holiday in the Netherlands, celebrates the birthday of the King of the Netherlands. King's Day is known for its flea markets all over the country, where everybody is allowed to sell things in the streets. Location: various locations.

The global tour of this traveling exhibition is coordinated by the Anne Frank Foundation, the local implementation is in the hands of partner organizations of the Foundation. The exhibition is open to the general public but focuses on young people aged 11 to 18 years. Location: Central Library.

- 14 May 2014 / THE REMEMBERANCE OF THE BOMBARDEMENT OF ROTTERDAM
On 14 May 2014 Rotterdam will commemorate the bombardement which destroyed Rotterdam in 1940. On this day a variety of activities will be held, such as a commemorative ceremony. Location: various locations.
Theatres and concert halls, local living rooms, open-air locations and unusual buildings set the stage for world-famous soloists and homegrown Rotterdam talent. The 8th edition of Opera Days Rotterdam will take place from Saturday 17 May through Sunday 25 May 2014. The theme of the shows is (R)evolution. Locations: Onderzeebootloods I, Rotterdam Schouwburg and Luxor Theater.
The Kunsthal Rotterdam hosts the International Architecture Biennale this summer. From the end of May 2014, IABR - 2014 - Urban by Nature shows, through more than 100 projects from around the world, how new city-landscapes can be looked at, and what they mean for our lives: from the immense, densely populated deltas to post-industrial parks and city-farming, from the World Wide Fund for Nature new approach to that of Texel, and from the "metabolism" of a city such as Rotterdam to what's going on underground. Films, info graphics, videos, photos and models take the visitor through the present and future of the city-landscape. Location: Kunsthal Rotterdam.

For fifteen years long TWOOLS is the festive closing of the dance season in the Rotterdam Schouwburg. Without a story or a theme dance performances with a maximun of ten minutes will follow in high tempo. Choreographer Ed Wubbe creates an own atmosphere with his binding dance performances. Location: Rotterdam Schouwburg.
Contemporary Chinese Art of the collectors couple De Heus-Zomer in the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen this summer. An extensive exhibition with art pieces of significant Chinese artists like Zhang Huan, Hai Bo, Zhang Xiaogang and Wang Guangle. Location: Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen.
Museum Park is the cultural backdrop for theatre tents hosting shows by national and international performing troupes. Various restaurants serve their speciality day in and day, ranging from small snacks to full dinners. Theatre, music and dance performances: the Parade caters to every taste, including a kids’ show every afternoon. Location: Museum Park.

This festival offers a wide mix of American music with some roots from the 40ies and 50ies: swamp-blues, hip-hop, hillbilly, oldtime-country, folk en rockabilly. Location: Pijnackerplein.

World-famous jazz festival that encompasses the past, present and future of jazz. From traditional New Orleans jazz, free jazz and avant-garde jazz to electronic jazz. North Sea Jazz also includes blues, funk, soul, R&B, hip-hop and Latin. Location: Ahoy Rotterdam.
During this days only the best BMX riders are batteling in the Sport Palace of Ahoy for the medal of honour. The course will be inspired on the course of the Olympic Games Beijing. Location: Ahoy Rotterdam.
Between 24 July and 8 August 2014 we expect to welcome about 3000 student athletes from 45 European countries, who will compete in 10 sports: Badminton, Basketball, Handball, Tennis, Futsal, Football, Rugby 7’s, Rowing, Volleyball and Table Tennis.
